Dear Friends, Supporters, and Community Partners,

We are writing to share our deep concerns regarding the executive order on homelessness recently signed by President Trump. This action marks a significant and troubling shift away from proven, compassionate, and effective approaches to addressing homelessness—both nationally and in communities like ours here in Los Angeles. The executive order calls for a nationwide crackdown on homeless encampments, encouraging cities and states to dismantle these spaces and direct people into institutional settings or forced treatment.

As a homeless service agency committed to housing justice, we cannot stay silent in the face of such a harmful policy direction. We stand firmly with the National Alliance to End Homelessness in rejecting this approach. Sweeps, criminalization, and forced institutionalization do not solve homelessness—they perpetuate trauma, disrupt pathways to housing, and push people further from the services they need.

At LA Family Housing, we know what works: housing-first strategies, supportive services, mental health care, substance use treatment, and compassionate, person-centered planning. We urge our supporters, partners, and elected officials to join us in standing against this executive order and any efforts to criminalize or institutionalize people experiencing homelessness. Now more than ever, we need bold advocacy and unwavering commitment to equity, compassion, and evidence-based care. Thank you for continuing to stand with LA Family Housing and our mission to end homelessness in people’s lives —humanely and effectively.
